Storyline of A2 Film

Storyline
A young girl called Millie moves to a new school and falls in love with the most
popular boy in the school who is also the captain of the school football team.
However Millie is not the only girl in the school the likes Jack (the popular male) as
all of the other girls in the school do as well. Millie spends weeks trying to get Jacks
attention and trying to get him to notice her, whilst doing this she causes lots of
commotion along the way. The main bit of trouble that Mille causes is when she
meets the future school prom queen Charlotte who is the popular girl within the
school. But after weeks of Millie trying to get Jack to notice her and talk to her, they
get put together for a science assignment. During the time that they are completing
their science assignment they begin to talk and become close. This results in them
spending lots of time with each other, going round each other’s houses. After a
while Millie decides to tell Jack how she feels towards him. This comes as a surprise
to Jack and he does not know how to react as he thought that him and Millie were
just very good friends, this also puts Jack into a bit of confusion as he is aware that
all of the other girls around school claim that they ‘Love’ him. Millie is really upset
as she does not know how Jack feels about her and whether she will ever get her
chance with him. She begins to ignore and hide from Jack for a few weeks
afterwards, this make Jack feel upset as he thought that they were good friends and
he begins to miss her. Shortly after Jack realises that he did and does like Millie
back, however he thinks he has missed his chance with her as she has gone to a
house party with another boy called Ben. Jack decides to make his way to the party
to try and speak to Millie, however when he gets to the party she has already gone
upstairs with Ben. Jack bursts through the door and tries to get Millie to leave with
him so that they can talk. Millie turns Jack away and says that she is staying with
Ben. As Jack keeps asking Millie to come with him Ben begins to get frustrated
because he will not leave her alone, this results in Ben pushing and Jack telling him
to leave. This ends up turning into a big fight between Jack and Ben with it
eventually coming to an end and Millie saying that she will leave with Jack. They
leave the house together and go to a park just across the road, they begin to start
talking and being flirty like they was beforehand. Jack then tells Millie how he feels
towards her and they kiss.

Our storyline is very similar to that of the film 'John Tucker Must Die'. It follows the idea of having a main male character that all the girls fight for. In our film, the character plays the role of the 'jock' that flirts with all the girls, this is the same as the character John Tucker. The characters are very similar in the terms of both being sporty, good looking, confident and arrogant.

Teenage Angst Film Trailer Conventions

Teenage Angst: Teenage angst is when teenagers become depressed due to a mixture of reasons such as there hormones and stress from school/college. This can be separated in to being real angst or fake angst. Real angst is when a teenage will be going through a tough phase which could be because of many different things. False angst is when somebody acts like they have it hard in an attempt to get other peoples attention.

The teenage angst films that I have looked at are, Easy A, Means Girls and American Pie. I have looked at the stereotypical conventions that are used in each of the trailers for the three films that I have researched.

Voiceover: In the teenage angst films that I have looked in to each of them have used a voiceover to explain the storyline of the film.In both of the trailers for Easy A and Mean girls the voiceover is the main character of the film explaining the events that take place and what happens throughout the film. For my own film I have used a female voice over, this voiceover is spoken by Faye, who plays the character Millie in my film. Much like the Easy A trailer, the voice over in my film speaks the audience through the trailer and talks about the events that are taking place on the screen, giving them a clearer understanding of the events.

Cuts and Transitions: The idea of a trailer is to show the audience very briefly what the film is about. The ideal trailer will be fast paced, with lots of quick cuts. This is to show just small quick shots/scenes from the film so that the audience can get a basic understanding of the plot of it. In my own trailer I have used two transitions, Fade to blacks and Flashes. I have used fade to black between most of the scenes and images to help increase the speed of the trailer making it short and snappy which is what trailers stereotypically are. I also used a flash when the fight scene appears during the trailer, this is to connote that this scene is going to be explosive. It also creates excitement and tension for the audience as they are unsure of what the outcome is going to be.

Inter titles: Inter titles are used in trailers to help explain a set of images or a video extract to the audience, it allows the audience to be able to recognise what is about to happening in the coming part of the trailer. They help to make the trailer clearer to understand. In my own trailer I have used inter titles, part of my feedback that I received was to add in a few more to help to make it clearer for the audience to understand. My inter titles were in a bold, clear white font to ensure that they were easy for the audience to read.

Music: In trailers it is mainly, non diegetic sound that is used. It is common in teenage angst trailers that the music is lively and up beat at the beginning for example when the characters are being introduced. The music is usually not the main sound that the audience will hear through the trailer as this will be a voiceover explaining the plot of the film. The music that I have added in for my own trailer is upbeat and happy until the fight scene appears on the screen, when this scene appears the music turns to rock, this could suggest that the scene is going to be violent.

Non-Chronological order: With all trailers there should be some form of order in which scenes are shown, for example they should always show the story in order. In trailers they should show scenes from the story from the beginning to the end. By doing this it makes it easier and clearer for the audience to understand. If the order of the trailer was to be all messed up the audience wouldn't find it very easy to follow along with. With my own trailer I have shown the images and scenes in order again simply to make it easy for the audience to follow along with.

Billing Block: Billing block are usually the last thing to be shown in a trailer, they display the main actors names, producers, cameramen etc. This is done to credit the people that helped to make the film itself.

Dialogue: During trailers, it is common for some form of dialogue to be used, this can be through an extract from the film of a key conversation of phrase for example that will be used in the film to trigger the start of a key moment.

Main Title Screen: The main title screen of any film during a trailer usually appears just before the billing block, the title of the film is commonly displayed on its own with a set colour as a background. However some films may also use a picture of a character or object from their film when displaying their main title screen.
