Evaluation Task 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products
Image 1: Image 1 is showing a low angle shot of two of the main characters in our film. Low angle shots are usually used to connote a character having power over character. This shot is taken after the characters Jack and Ben have had a fight over who Millie should be with. With the use of this low angle it connotes that Jack has power over the other male characters in the film. This is stereotypical of popular characters in the teenage angst genre as they are always shown as being the dominant characters. For example in the trailer of the film Easy A.
Image 2: This image is a mid shot showing the front door of the house that we used to film. This shows that a variety of locations have been used. A house is a very stereotypical location for the teenage angst genre, they are predominately used for party scenes which is why we used this location in our film. We decided to stick to the stereotypical convention of having a house party when filming our trailer as we thought that it would help our film to fit into the genre. An example of a trailer that uses this convention as well is Mean Girls. House parties are commonly used in the teenage angst genre as it is very stereotypical of teenagers to have parties.
Image 3: This is another mid shot of the character Jack walking in to the room to look for Millie. At first we used a fade to black at this part of the trailer which then skipped to Jack being in the room. However after receiving feedback, we decided to change the transition to a flash. We felt that by using a flash instead of a fade to black it would help to make the fight scene that we used explosive.
Image 4: This is one of many sub titles that we used during our trailer, When our first draft of our trailer was shown there wasn't any subtitles included. After getting feedback on our first draft we were told that the storyline of the film was not portrayed very well, so we decided to follow a stereotypical convention of trailers and add in these subtitles, this then made it clearer for the audience and it made the storyline much easier to understand.
Image 5: This is a mid shot of our main character Jack. In this shot you can see the type of clothes which Jack is wearing, we decided to stick with the stereotypical convention of casual clothes for the characters in our film. When researching in to other teenage angst films I found that casual clothing was a regular occurence, this is mainly because the films that I have looked at (Easy A and Mean Girls) focus a lot on the school life of the characters.
Image 6: This is a long shot of Millie just as she is about to fall over in front of Jack. This is the first time that Millie is introduced to the audience, and also the other characters in the film as well. By looking at this screenshot we get the impression that Millie is going to be the character that embarasses herself a lot throughout the film.
Image 7:This is a screenshot of the name of our production company. This is a common feature for trailers to have. The font that is used is a simple and clear font in white on a black background, this is to ensure that the audience can clearly see it and see who has produced the film. The effect that appears in the background of this image is a pink line that follows the production company down and the continues until the title of the film appears. It then splashes on the word 'Jack' in the title like a paint drop which connotes the idea of school being involved in the film.
Image 8: This is a mid shot of Millie walking past and bumping in to the popular group of girls, this then causes the popular girls to notice Millie and start being horrible towards her as they know that she is trying to talk to Jack. This again is another very stereotypical feature of teenage angst films, having a group of popular girls pick on one shy girl. We decided to stick to this convention as we felt that it works very well and that it suited the plot of our film very well too.
Image 9: This is the title of our film 'Jack Palmer'. In the image that is shown above there is an effect that is behind the word Jack. This shot shows the title of our film and the font in which we have used when displaying it, The font that we have used is Eras Light ITC. We chose the colour pink for the title of the film, this is because pink is stereotypically a feminine colour and the target audience of our film is females so this suits very well.
