Teenage Angst Props - Research

The props that are used in this genre are all items/objects that are commonly used by teenagers everyday, these items are things such as computers, phones, make up, alcohol and clothing accessories.

Teenagers now a days are always using their phones for texting, calling and also for the usage of social media sites such as twitter and facebook. As shown in the image on the left characters in the teenage angst genre are very stereotypical in the way that they use their phones very frequently. In my own trailer the usage of phones is very minimal, I have only included one scene were phones are used and this is where a group of girls are standing around chatting before the new girl walks past them. I decided not to use this stereotypical convention as I felt that it wouldn't have fitted in with the idea of the new girl being shy and not talking to anyone, which is how the character Millie is portrayed in my trailer.

Linking in with mobiles phones and social networking sites comes computers/laptops. Again it is stereotypical of teenages to spend their free time on their computers either playing games, doing work and using social networking sites to talk to their friends. This piece of technology is also used by teenagers to help set up events such as house parties, which again are very stereotypical features of the teenage angst genre.

Clothing accessories and make up are mainly common features for girls, and this is followed in the teenage angst genre. However it is stereotypical for both male and female teenagers to follow the latest clothing trends and fashions, this is because they want to look stylish.

Alcohol is a very common feature within the teenage angst genre, again linking back to the idea of a house party which is where it is mainly seen/used by the characters in the film itself.
